Steak and Mushroom Recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the Steak:
    • 2 ribeye steaks (about 1 inch thick)
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs (optional)

  • For the Mushrooms:
    • 2 cups mixed mushrooms (cremini, shiitake, and oyster are great choices)
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1/4 cup dry white wine or beef broth
    • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Steaks

  • Take the steaks out of the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This ensures even cooking.
  • Season both sides of the steaks generously with salt and pepper.


Step 2: Cook the Steaks

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the steaks. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare or until they reach your desired doneness.
  • During the last minute of cooking, add the butter, garlic, and herbs to the pan. Baste the steaks with the melted butter using a spoon.
  • Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest on a plate loosely covered with aluminum foil.

Step 3: Saute the Mushrooms

  • In the same skillet, add the butter for the mushrooms. Once melted, add the garlic and cook until fragrant (around 1 minute).
  • Add the mushrooms and thyme, and season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are golden brown and tender (5-7 minutes).
  • Pour in the white wine or beef broth to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the liquid has mostly evaporated.
  • Stir in the chopped parsley if using.

Step 4: Serve & Enjoy!

  • Plate the steaks and top them with the sautéed mushrooms.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!
